Guernsey Film Charms Viewers
After much anticipation, the film adaptation of Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows’ epistolary novel THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY aired August 10, 2018 on Netflix. The streaming service picked up the U.S. release of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society following the film’s successful theatrical release in the UK.
With a star-studded cast including Lily James (Downton Abbey), Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), and Glen Powell (Set It Up), the film received overwhelmingly positive reviews, including an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and praise from various media outlets including Variety, Forbes, Slate, and Bustle. Los Angeles Times critic Kenneth Turan calls the film “an old-school, old-fashioned entertainment, a romantic drama bursting with scenic vistas and earnest charm that contains just enough mystery to keep us involved.”
Paula Mazur and Mitch Kaplan produced the film; Mike Newell directed; and writing credits go to Don Roos, Kevin Hood, and Thomas Bezucha.
