Back Roads Hits The Big Screen
The film adaptation of Tawni O’Dell’s BACK ROADS hit the screens in select theaters across the country on December 7, 2018. The film had big shoes to fill, as its literary predecessor was an Oprah’s Book Club selection in March 2000 and a New York Times bestseller.
Branded as a gritty drama, Back Roads was the directorial debut for Elvis & Nixon actor Alex Pettyfer, who also starred in the film. Jennifer Morrison (Once Upon a Time), Nicola Peltz (Transformers: Age Of Extinction), Chiara Aurelia (Gerald’s Game), Hala Finley (Man With a Plan), June Carryl (Sweet November), Robert Patrick (Scorpion), and Juliette Lewis (August: Osage County) co-starred.
With and IMDb score of 7.3, Back Roads had a particularly strong showing on the film festival circuit, including an award for Best Feature at the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
Samuel Goldwyn Films handled North American distribution rights, and the film was produced by Upturn Productions, LLC. Ashley Mansour, Jake Seal, Dan Spilo and Infinity Film’s Michael Ohoven also produced. Simon Wetton, Ben White, Palmer Murray, Ali Jazayeri, and Amy Rodrigue served as executive producers. Author Tawni O’dell co-wrote the script along with Adrian Lyne.
